[BQ-SX-FC] Wudang Horsetail Whisk (Fuchen) US$67.20
Wudang Horsetail Whisk (Fuchen)
HIGHLIGHTS

The horsetail whisk or fuchen is a unique Taoist weapon as the folksay: “One who holds a fuchen must not be an ordinary person.” Fuchen was first used in ceremony only and later became as a weapon as well.

In the past, Taoist masters were very strict in screening their disciples and will usually take a long period of time to observe and try them out. Only for those can pass through will receive in-depth teachings. Usually, a disciple will do tough works during the first three years, and learn some basics of Taoism and kung fu, during which time, the master will observe and try out the disciple’s patience. After the three year trial period, the master will then hold an official ceremony to accept him as a formal disciple. After which, the master allows the disciple to leave and travel for learning more, but he is worried about the disciple being tempted by many things and will not return. Therefore, before the disciple leaves, the master will give him three things to remind him. The first thing is a long red ribbon to tame his mind. The second thing is a fuchen for him to be friend of good people and helping others. If he is enamored, he must whisk these thoughts away. And thirdly a sword. If he has lost his way and lost himself, the disciple remembers that his master has given him the sword to cut away these ideas, so that he may carry on his way. After three years of roaming, he returns and the master sees that he has enough patience and steadfastness to spend lifetime at the temple to pursue Tao, and finally the master will teach him how to be immortal.

Fuchen gradually became a weapon and belongs to the soft weapon style. The actions include wrapping and pulling, snapping, whisking, poking, sweeping, etc. It can be used like the broadsword, straight sword, scourge, and dart weapons. When you practice fuchen, your movements must be in tune with your intention, your intention must be in tune with your Qi, and your Qi must be in tune with your spirit. The movements should be smooth like the wind and flowing like water.
